Temporary Cabin Cargo Conversion: Cargo On Floor

Volume Four of this series introduces our passenger to cargo cabin (P2C) conversion program, another initiative in JAMCO Group’s “Project Blue Sky,” which offers solutions to the aviation industry for the “New Normal.”

Demand for air travel has dropped suddenly due to global travel restrictions caused by COVID-19. However, demand for air cargo remains strong and an increasing number of airlines around the world are looking to reduce passenger seats and increase cargo capacity on their flights.

JAMCO Group is responding to this need by offering a quick conversion service that removes seats from the passenger cabin and allows cargo to be secured to the cabin floor.

In the first instance of this P2C conversion program, JAMCO AERO DESIGN & ENGINEERING PTE. LTD. and Singapore Airlines leveraged their years of knowhow related to passenger cabin conversion to obtain a Supplementary Type Certificate (STC) from the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) and successfully convert the cabin of a Singapore Airlines’ Boeing 777-300ER to a cargo cabin.

The JAMCO Group is looking to expand availability of this service to the US and Europe, as obtaining the CAAS STC means that it meets the requirements for Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) STC approvals.

The JAMCO Group will continue to contribute to the development of the aviation industry through solutions for the “New Normal.”

The conversion process involves attaching hardware for tying down cargo to the cabin floor, enabling it to be loaded in the most optimal arrangement. This increases cargo capacity by 12% when compared with a standard Boeing 777-300ER. Since STCs can be quickly obtained for the conversion, passenger cabins can be converted to cargo cabins in a short amount of time.
